Insurance Trouble Shooting
We file for you with insurers with whom we are in network. If we are out of network with your insurance, you can file for reimbursement using the Superbill provided by your IBCLC. If you are having trouble with your insurance claim, call us at 512-808-0237. Key numbers you may need for an insurance reimbursement claim are:
Fax: 1-512-498-0211
Tax ID or EIN: 46-5245518
National Provider Identification or NPI#: 1609275858
- Lactation services are covered under The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2012. Because it is new for many insurers, confusion is common. Sometimes more specific communication is all that is needed. Consider these steps in working with your insurer:
These steps are guidance only — no healthcare provider can tell you what your insurance will or will not cover.
- Call your insurance company and ask if they require any particular forms or processes for reimbursement.
- Make sure you understand the reason your claim has been denied. Occasionally a claim just needs to be resubmitted under the mother’s name instead of the baby’s, or vice versa, or other additional information is necessary. Some companies may ask for a referral from your pediatrician or ObGyn.
- Your IBCLC will give you a receipt — known as a Superbill — which includes:
Our National Provider Identification (NPI) number and tax ID (EIN) number- The code for the appointment type (CPT code), such as a home visit
- A code for the problem addressed (ICD-10 code), such as slow newborn weight gain
- The amount you paid, the date of service, and your IBCLC’s signature and contact information
- Mail or fax this Superbill together with your policy information and any required forms to your insurance company according to their instructions. Be sure to include:
- The reason you sought help
-
- The name of any pediatrician or healthcare provider who referred you
- Any information you were provided by phone by your insurer
- Whether your insurer provided a list of covered IBCLCs — if they did not, this is not meaningful coverage under the ACA
